My university's teacher KAWASAKI Tsuneyuki 1908-1996 taught the history of Japan at this school in his youth days.
His friend HANI Goro also taught the history of the world at the same time.
The days are 1940s.
I learnt Japanese Buddhism history from KAWASAKI at 1979-1986.
His 4 volume Selected Papers of History are published from Tokyo University Press in 1982.
He was famous by the paper written in 1948 on the Mediterranean Buddhism of Japan led by Buddhist Shinran.
